Better Settle In - It's Gonna Be a Long Blog

It's about time I get these pictures of Heather's baby shower up! It was such a sweet day and I think all of us (probably most of all Heather!) were exhausted at the end of the day. But Heather got a LOAD of wonderful gifts and got to see a lot of people that she loves that day, so it was well worth it. But seriously, I don't remember being quite that tired in a really long time!

Rather than one large cake, we made "baby cakes." (My fellow hostesses assured me the name was cute and not gruesome.) It was the best decision. They are so cute on the table and there is no cake cutting involved. We topped ours with Baby Jacob's monogram. He will be Jacob Andrew Muskrat.

These really didn't get eaten, but we didn't expect them to. Apparently Heather was craving tomatos with her pickles instead of icecream. Her sister says she would go so far as to order a bowl of pickles and tomatos in a restaurant! I guess pregnant ladies are allowed to order off-menu.

Fruit trays are always a hit and apparently early August is a perfect time for melons. We had some leftover cupcake toppers, so we dressed the fruit up a little too.

These are Heather's favorite cookies. People kept coming back for them.

We planned some little crafts. This one was a blessing wreath.

I think this is Heather's cousin? For her blessing she was drawing a picture of Jacob fighting a dragon. Apparently he's going to be very brave!

We also had the guests decorate onesies! So much fun and they turned out so cute! This is Heather's niece. I think this onesie will be Jacob's favorite.

See?

Lots of present to be opened! Whatever this one was, Heather was really excited about it!

And these are just some sweet shots that I liked a lot.

And finally some favorites from her maternity shoot. What a trooper! It was HOT. And she was wearing maternity jeans. It just shouldn't have to be that way.

I think a little Marble Slab made her feel better about it.

Precious Moments

Michael and I met up with the Fishes this weekend for lunch and to show them their finished portraits. We had a great time seeing our friends and playing with Kailey. She is just sweet and silly and so much fun! Here are some favorite shots of Kailey and her parents:

The whole Fish family.

I think Kailey looks like a Precious Moments figurine here. Did anybody else have the Precious Moments Bible when you were little?

I'm so glad we caught her when she still had the gummy smile. Her teeth are showing through now.

I think this last one is my favorite. Thanks, Kailey!

Hello, Hello Again!

Sha-boom, sha-boom.

Had to finish it.

Anyway - I have Hudson's pictures finished, so I'm ready to show you a larger sample. Here are my favorites!

We actually did his portraits in two segments. This is from the first one at the Hogg House. I think it's so funny when he sticks his tongue out!

He also really likes to put his fists in his mouth apparently. His momma kept moving them down and they just kept popping right back up!

"Hudson! Hudson! He's our man!" I'm not sure how many times we chanted that to keep him giggling - it was a lot. But it worked.

And big laughs to finish! Thanks Hudson!

What a Weekend! / A Weird Pattern

Whew!! I am wore out from this weekend! Friday night we celebrated Carmen's bday (PF Chang's with some of my favorite people - yum!), Saturday was Heather's baby shower and Sunday we took maternity portraits for her. It was all a lot of fun, but there were 3 inch heels, forty guests and what I'm certain was more than 100 degrees of Texas heat involved. Not to mention 6 hours of driving over three days. Wow!

So I have lots to blog about and very little time to actually get down to doing it. I'm currently at a Starbucks on my lunchbreak (very nutritious) getting a little editing in, and I am just so excited about this huge crop of photos that I decided to share a little sneak peak with you. We'll go in chronological order.

You've seen this little guy before. Well, guess what - Hudson is four months old this week! He's very smiley and likes it when his mom makes up cheers for him.

This is Miss Kailey Fish. Michael and I met our friends Summer and Tim and Kailey in Pflugerville a couple of weekends ago and spent a couple of hours playing and taking pictures. I'm almost done getting these pictures ready to show her parents and I can't wait! I keep opening up my pictures folder just to look at beautiful Kailey Fish.

And lastly, Mrs. Heather Muskrat is expecting Jacob Andrew (named after his daddy) in October and was in Texas for her shower this weekend. She was a trooper and agreed to let me photograph her even though it was unbearbly hot! I have a TON of pictures from this shoot and her shower.

I just realized that all three subjects from these shoots have animal last names...Hudson HOGG, Kailey FISH and Heather MUSKRAT. What in the world?!

Stay tuned for lots more pictures coming up!

Da, da, da, DAAA!!

And finally - the moment you've all probably forgotten about by now because it's been so long since I started this project - it's time to unveil my completed bathroom do-over. To refresh your memory, the bathroom used to look like this:

It was painted the color of refried beans, and since I never really dug the color, I never did anything else with the room. I used green towels from our apartment and hung them right next to the blue and tan curtain that we bought too long. I pinned it up but that's as close as I ever got to shortening it, so it had a kind-of balloon effect going on. It was very trendy.

Then for a month or so while I worked on it, it looked like this:

And now, I have painted (2 coats primer, 2 coats paint), shopped, nearly destroyed and basically re-created my bathroom to look like this:

We like it very much and we kind of hope it makes our house look a little less builder-ish. We painted it a lovely shade of yellow, replaced the light fixture and bought new accessories - towels and such.

I do have a little more to do in the decor department. The shelf (which Michael basically built for me) is a little sparse for my taste and I definitely want something on the wall. I'm thinking black and white photos, but I'm just not sure what kind of pictures to put in a bathroom. Any ideas?
